META_EPICS

define: META

In epistemology the prefix meta- is used to mean about. It is derived from the Ancient Greek meta, which is a preposition and prefix having several meanings. One of those, meta as preposition taking the genitive case, translates as the English with; but there are others, and the verb prefix meta- in Greek, seen in metamorphosis, connotes change.

Something on an abstraction level higher than the current. To go meta means to take a step back and look at the bigger picture - which can be done indefinitely in an arbitrary number of ways.

A prefix used in computer science meaning “relating to” or “based on.” For example, a metadirectory would be a directory relating to, or about directories. More simply put, a directory of directories.

define: SPACE

Space in mathematics is a generic term and it depends on the subject you are studying as to what it means. A vector space is a set of objects that behave like the intuitive notion of something with magnitude and direction, such as force. That is, vectors in a vector space can be added, subtracted and scaled with a constant. Also, finite dimensional vector spaces have a (non-unique) base that can be used to define the dimension of the space.

the unlimited expanse in which everything is located // an empty area (usually bounded in some way between things) // an area reserved for some particular purpose // a blank character used to separate successive words in writing or printing // distance: the interval between two times // a blank area // one of the areas between or below or above the lines of a musical staff // place at intervals

define: EPIC(s)

The epic is a broadly defined genre of poetry, which retells in a continuous narrative the life and works of a heroic or mythological person or group of persons. In the West, the Iliad, Odyssey and Nibelungenlied; and in the East, the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Shahnama are often cited as examples of the epic genre.

very imposing or impressive; surpassing the ordinary (especially in size or scale); “an epic voyage”; “of heroic proportions”; “heroic sculpture” // constituting or having to do with or suggestive of a literary epic; “epic tradition” // epic poem: a long narrative poem telling of a hero’s deeds

Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing. This term is coined by Intel for its IA-64 chips and the Instruction Set that is defined for them. EPIC can be seen as Very Large Instruction Word computing with a few enhancements. The gist of it is that no dynamic instruction scheduling is performed as is done in RISC processors but rather that instruction scheduling and speculative execution of code is determined beforehand in the compilation stage of a program. This simplifies the chip design while potentially many instructions can be executed in parallel.

define: TIME

Time quantifies or measures the interval between events, or the duration of events. Time has long been perceived as a dimension in which each event has a definite (but not necessarily unique) position in a linear sequence, but as differing from spatial dimensions in that “motion” through time appears restricted to having only a forward direction.

an instance or single occasion for some event // an indefinite period (usually marked by specific attributes or activities) // a period of time considered as a resource under your control and sufficient to accomplish something // a suitable moment // the continuum of experience in which events pass from the future through the present to the past // clock time: the time as given by a clock // clock: measure the time or duration of an event or action or the person who performs an action in a certain period of time // fourth dimension: the fourth coordinate that is required (along with three spatial dimensions) to specify a physical event // assign a time for an activity or event // a person’s experience on a particular occasion // set the speed, duration, or execution of // regulate or set the time of // meter: rhythm as given by division into parts of equal time // prison term: the period of time a prisoner is imprisoned // adjust so that a force is applied an an action occurs at the desired time
